St Lucia anchorages

Rodney Bay

Rodney Bay Marina was fairly quiet when we visited in April and May 2017 (compared to when we have been here with the ARC and ARC+) and we found the surrounding restaurants, shops and car hire options to be a little more expensive this time. The local fruit and veg man in the boat was actually not too bad on price although obviously the local market in town would be cheaper, but I like the personal service he provides and trying out his different wares. It was nice that the marina staff allocated berths to us visiting yachts on different pontoons as it meant we had lots of space around us. We needed replacement batteries and a new motor for our windlass whilst we were in Rodney Bay and this was organised for us by a the very helpful Island Waterworld. We tended to use our dinghy to visit the large supermarket and the beaches, but also used the local buses (which stop outside the marina) and walked a lot. The marina wifi just about reached our yacht but there are plenty of cafes and bars ashore if you need a more reliable connection.

Marigot Bay
We made a quick stop in Marigot Bay this time and anchored near Doolittle's Hotel and Restaurant. The customs and immigration ashore were efficient and you can access wifi on the pontoon. There is a small supermarket ashore and many locals paddled over to our anchorage with fresh fruit, vegetables and fish.

The Pitons
We have stayed here overnight a couple of times picking up one of the mooring buoys between Petit Piton and Grand Piton, which is a stunning location. We have heard troublesome stories from other cruisers about this area and around in Castries, but we have not experienced any issues ourselves. The local boat boys like to help with the mooring bouys and are quite competetive about it. We were also visited by the local park warden to collect the mooring fee on one occassion. We have found this to be a very windy location, but it is a quiet spot, a good location to break up a passage and has amazing scenery.
