Honduras Anchorages

Where We Anchored – 09 36 72 N 79 35 32 W

We have anchored here a couple of times and found the holding to be very good. Our last visit found us in a very rolly anchorage and a number of boats moved in closer to the marina to try and get out of the swell. We used the fuel station (an interesting approach through the marked channel) at the marina as well obtaining a zarpe from the port officer.

French Cay - Roatan

This is an exciting marina to enter as it means traversing the outer breakwater of the Panama Canal with all the associated marine traffic. The marina itself has great dock hands who work hard to get you berthed in a suitable spot. There are the usual facilities such as electric, water, showers, sail loft, chandlery, bar/restaurant etc.., but the swimming pool, Cruisers Lounge and Cruisers Palapa (with great bbq area) were very welcome additions.

Fellow cruisers described the marina as being “in the middle of nowhere”, but being on the edge of a national park meant we were surrounded by the most fantastic wildlife we have ever seen around a marina (the resident crocodile who swims between the yachts was a particular treat) enabling us to take wonderful nature walks each day. The marina runs a regular shopping bus into Colon and taxis are available if desired. We found the marina shop provided some nice items for provisioning, particularly the bread and croissants baked in store every day.
