Guadeloupe anchorages

Deshaies
This is the anchorage we have used most regularly in Guadeloupe and it very easy to clear in and out using the computer in the clothes shop. The village has several bars, restaurants (many on the water front) and shops and there is an ATM near the square in the centre of the village. We have used the local buses to visit Grand Anse Beach and Point a Pitre. The anchorage has been very windy on all our visits and care needs to be taken when setting the anchor so as not to drag in the gusts.

Les Trois Tortues
We have stayed in turtle bay a few times and always enjoyed the peace and great snorkeling here. There is not room for many boats, but we have always found a space. There is a steep walk up the hill behind the beach if we want to stretch our legs.

Iles des Saintes
Our most memorable trip here was during Easter when we were able to watch the mooring buoy battles as yachts and catamarans vied for any available space. We picked up a mooring buoy off Islet Cabrit and found it fairly well sheltered and the island itself has some fascinating ruins to explore, including Fort Josephine. A shortish dinghy ride took us over to Terre de Haut for customs and immigration via a computer in a cafe/bar. There are lots of shops, bars and restaurants on Terre de Haut and we took ourselves off for a tour of the island on a hired scooter. Fort Napoleon was worth a visit and there are lots of beaches to enjoy.
