Grenada and the Grenadines - Things We Love
Fantastic Flora and Fauna
We have been amazed by the sheer variety and abundance of flowers, trees, fruit, spices and vegetables growing on Grenada. Everywhere you look there is something growing that you want to munch on - cocoa, guava, avocado, mango, pawpaw, soursop, nutmeg, sugar cane – the list seems endless. This abundance of produce also means some of the best chocolate we have every tasted and some of the strongest rum we have ever tried. The chocolate has become a regular treat, but I'm afraid the rum will not be joining us on board; it must be a fire hazard !

We were lucky to see the local Mona monkeys whilst out on our island tour with Cutty. I think monkeys cheer me up almost as much as dolphins.
Buses – Again !
I often mention our love of travelling around Caribbean islands using local buses, but Grenada seems to have made public transportation even more fun. Each bus has a 'conductor' who is extremely active in drumming up business – shouting at people in the street to see if they want to get on board, suggesting the driver reverses up side roads to pick up pedestrians and even trying to cajole you on board if you are walking in the opposite direction. Deviations off the main bus route are common and you can usually negotiate a special drop off if needed. Luckily we are not in a rush (Caribbean time) and these deviations enable us to explore other parts of the island while chatting to fellow passengers. It still surprises and delights me to see people helping each other out with heavy shopping and saying a polite “good morning or afternoon” as people get on board.
